Sunday Sermon at the Grateful Church (UPCI) in Phoenix
Gift of the Holy Ghost
It is a common practice to travel across the desert with a morsel of bread and a bottle or skin-bag of water (Oboth). However, during the long and treacherous journey of struggles and difficult times, it is easy to runout of water and get very thirsty. Thirsty for relief from the harsh and unfriendly environment to a point of desperation, discouragement, crankiness, and frustrations because the water supply could not sustain us through the journey. God offers a spring of water so we will never thirst again. Jesus cries out if any thirst, let him come and drink. Come boldly, Dig deep with authority and power in full assurance of faith expecting God to fill you with the living water (Holy Ghost) and He will.
Num 21:4-5: 9-11; 16-18
4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth (hate with passion) this light bread.
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10 And the children of Israel set forward and pitched in Oboth.
11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness, which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the Lord spake unto Moses, gather (assemble) the people together, and I will give them water (Living water: a type of the Holy Ghost and a promised of the God).
17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves (Scepter). And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
When they repented God move them from:
Oboth - the place of dryness due to the long and treacherous journey and difficult challenges of live. - There must be a shift in our position or mind set
To Beer- the well of spring water to receive the promises of living water from God. We assemble with expectations to receive the promise of the father like the apostles.
They dug with their Scepters - an emblem of authority, command, and power.
We access the thrown with boldness and authority in full assurance of faith.
Heb 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
They Sang “Spring up O’ well “in a loud and commanding voice when the well was dry and dusty with no water in sight. We sing hallelujah to evoke the Spirit of the living God. We sing unto Lord a new and joyful song in our struggles.
Isa 12:2-3
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Ps 149:1-6
149 Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
In this last days, Jesus offers a spring of living water (Holy Ghost) that will not run out along the way or in challenging time, very satisfying that we never thirst again or run half full again- Jn 4:15
John 7:37-38
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 4:10-15
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
